Departing Australia Super (DASP)

Claim your Asgard Super after leaving Australia

If you worked in Australia on a temporary visa and you’ve now left, you may be able to withdraw your Asgard Super balance as a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP).

Who can apply for an Asgard Super DASP?

You may be eligible to claim your Asgard Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP) if:

  • You have left Australia and don’t intend to live there, and
  • Your temporary visa has expired or has been cancelled, and
  • You are not an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen, and
  • Super contributions were paid into your Asgard superannuation account while you were working in Australia.
Asgard note: New Zealand citizens cannot use the DASP process due to the Trans-Tasman arrangement. They usually need a Trans-Tasman transfer request instead.

What you need to prepare for an Asgard DASP claim

1

Identity documents

Passport details (passport number, full name, date of birth).

If your Asgard balance is above $5,000, certified copies of passport/ID are commonly required.

If overseas, certification is often done by a Notary Public or an Australian Embassy/Consulate.

2

Visa information

Your visa subclass/type.

Evidence your visa has expired or was cancelled (as required for a DASP claim).

3

Your Asgard account details

Asgard member/account number (if available).

Ensure your details match Asgard records to avoid verification delays.

4

Payment information

Asgard usually prefers payment to an Australian bank account in your own name.

If you don’t have one, Asgard may accept international details or other methods depending on policy.

Common reasons Asgard claims get delayed

  • Certification missing / unclear / wrong wording
  • Name mismatch between passport and Asgard member profile
  • Visa expiry/cancellation evidence not readable or not provided
  • Payment details not in the applicant’s own name
  • Old contact details causing missed follow-up requests
Tip: Update your Asgard email and phone before leaving Australia if possible.

Asgard Super unique requirements

1

6-month ATO transfer rule

Asgard may follow the unclaimed super process where eligible balances can be transferred to the ATO after a period of inactivity, especially once you have left Australia and your visa has expired or been cancelled.

2

New Zealand citizens

NZ citizens generally cannot use DASP and may need a Trans-Tasman transfer request instead.

3

Match your details exactly

Even small spelling differences in name or date-of-birth can trigger extra checks and delays. Make sure your Asgard account details line up with your passport and visa records.

Document standards (strict)

  • Passport copy must be clear and complete (photo page + details)
  • If certification is required, wording and stamp/signature must be correct
  • Visa evidence must show expiry or cancellation clearly
  • All documents should match your Asgard member profile details
Tip: If you are outside Australia, a Notary Public or Australian Embassy/Consulate is commonly used for certification.

Account closure & insurance

When you withdraw your super, your account balance reduces to $0 and any cover linked to the account may stop. If you still plan to keep super in Australia or hold other products, consider how this affects insurance before proceeding.

Required information

  • Full name + date of birth (must match passport)
  • Passport number + passport details
  • Visa details (subclass + expiry/cancellation evidence)
  • Asgard member/account number (if available)
  • Payment details (AU bank recommended, in your own name)
  • Updated email + phone number

How to withdraw (steps)

1

Confirm eligibility

You must have left Australia and your temporary visa must be expired or cancelled.

2

Submit DASP

Most applicants use the ATO online DASP system; Asgard then verifies your details and processes the payment.

3

Provide documents if requested

If Asgard requests certified ID or extra checks, submit documents with correct wording and certification.

4

Payment

Once verified, payment is released (time depends on checks and document quality).
